Since we moved into our home over 6 years old it has always been our hope that we would one day remodel the basement. The original foundation of our home is from 1957. The builder tore down the original ranch home that was on our property, kept the existing foundation, then added a larger lower sub basement level with tall ceilings. Think tall enough to play basketball. We decided to not remodel the entire basement and keep the lower sub basement level as an unfinished workout / sports area.
This summer we decided to take the plunge and remodel our basement. Our children are at an ideal age because they still spend the vast majority of time at home with us. When they have friends over to play it is so nice to let them have room to just be kids, and then shut the door and not see the mess.

The media wall paint color is Sherwin Williams Waterloo in matte finish. Speaking of media, we wanted to create an inviting space where we could all gather as a family to watch movies. Having a great couch was really important to us. It had to check all the boxes: comfortable, durable, and practical. I starting researching sectionals and came across Ballard Designs. We made an appointment with their Design Solutions team and headed into our local store to see our options.

It was a family affair. When selected such key furniture piece you want to be able to actually sit on it, touch it, and make sure it’s going to be comfortable. Ballard Designs Design Solution worked with us to select the best sectional configuration based on our space. We went with the Roswell Upholstered Left Arm Sectional with Ottoman in fabric Moka Char Sunbrella Performance. We’ve been thrilled with it. Definitely the most comfortable couch we’ve ever owned. The sectional is constructed in three pieces so we have the option to configure how we want and can easily move the ottoman around.

We couldn’t be more happy with how the basement turned out. Seeing the before and after is pretty amazing. It was definitely a labor of love and we’ve been enjoying it every since.
Thank you Ballard Designs for partnering with me
