Our backyard is an extension of our home…really a second living space. I can honestly say we utilize our outdoor space every single day and love being outside. We’ve been so very lucky to experience unseasonably warm weather this Fall in the Midwest, which has allowed us to continue to enjoy our backyard space. I was so inspired by Joss and Main to #DesigntheOutdoors that I wanted to share a backyard party we recently hosted. When we moved into our home three years ago I planted two trumpet vines on both sides of our pergola. This summer they absolutely took off and have grown halfway across the top of the pergola providing just the right amount of natural shade from the sun. This summer they attracted two beautiful hummingbirds, which were always a wonder to admire. To provide additional outdoor lighting my husband strung cafe lights inside the pergola that give off the perfect evening glow when you are sitting outside after sunset.

White antiquing this summer in Michigan I purchased this vintage oak table and Wheeling galvanized wash tub. The chairs are actually Joss and Main and are suitable for indoor and outdoor use. I turned the Wheeling galvanized wash tub into our bar for the evening. Andrews Garden in Wheaton, IL artfully designed the most exquisite fall blooms in a vintage copper pot I found at a barn sale. I knew I wanted to incorporate beets and turnips into the centerpiece and Andrew came up with the remainder of the floral design. Beautiful fresh blooms make all the difference when entertaining…this arrangement was truly a work of art.  If you live in the Chicagoland area I highly recommend their floral design classes and you can also order online.

The hand calligraphy on the place cards settings was done by the oh so talented Erin German. Erin also created my logo and recently launched the online paper boutique Peony Hill Press currently offering 20% off all items through November if you use the Promo code 20NOV.

I had so much fun sharing for #Designtheoutdoors. This has definitely been my favorite project thus far. I’d love to hear your thoughts and answer any questions you might have in the comments below.

Have a wonderful weekend friends!

XO,

Doreen
