Memorial Day is the kick-off to summer. It’s time to pay tribute to all the amazing men and women who have so bravely served our country so we can enjoy our freedom. For our family, it’s also time to reconnect and recharge. I took advantage of the long weekend to finally take a few days to unplug. My parents live on a small inland lake in the Irish Hills of Michigan.  Every year we head there for the long holiday weekend with my sister and brother in law and their family. Together we officially mark the beginning of summer.

 

 

Nothing beats lake life. From the sun up until sundown, we are outside barefoot in our swimsuits. The weekend is chalked full of the simple joys of summer. It’s water sports, campfires, fishing, making sun tea, and S’mores. It’s playing yard games (bags, frisbee, and croquet) and grilling out.

We sleep with the windows open and you can hear the fish jump at night. You wake up to the hum of boats pulling jet skiers, and the smell of last night’s campfire still burning out. I love every second of it… it’s my happy place. The perfect blend of family bonding and enjoying the great outdoors.  I’m a huge Wayfair fan (we just purchased a playset from them…more to come on that!) and they have great prices on outdoor everything.
