We all know the best gifts in life are free. But when gift giving, it’s thoughtful to give something that has personal meaning behind it. You don’t have to spend a lot on Valentines Day to wow that special someone. This year I’m sharing 2 thoughtful Valentine’s Day gift ideas that you can easily pull off. #1 Framed Wedding / Favorite Song My husband and I chose Dave Matthews, “You & Me” as our wedding song. At that time in our lives we were just starting out, building a family and foundation together. Both so hopeful of what our future would bring. We didn’t know what life had in store, and though the first years of marriage were filled with the immeasurable loss of my mother-in-law and heartbreak with trying to start a family, we got through it together. We still love our song. It optimizes that time in our lives. A few years ago I gave it to my husband for Valentines Day. You can download sheet music (for under $6) and print at home and frame. The website I used has over 300,000 songs. This is a great gift for anyone special in your life. Music really is the soundtrack to our lives. Think about how many times a song comes on and you think of someone or sometime. Frame it and display it anywhere in your home. Our wedding song is always is a gentle reminder to me of where we started.
Truth be told my most prized possessions include a few hand-written letters. Some from family we no longer have with us. To have their handwriting immortalized means more than gold to me. Our first date was a Counting Crows concert at the House of Blue in Chicago. There was a magician there doing magic tricks. That night I drew the Queen of Hearts. My husband somehow got and kept the card. On the day we were married he gave me a handwritten note and that Queen of Hearts he kept all those years. The framed letter (with the card inside) hangs prominently in our closet. A small note framed from my Grandma is next to our kitchen sink. She gave me a little gift once when I was in college and told me she loved me and how proud she was of me. I love looking at it, I can feel her with me when I read her writing.
Seeing someones handwriting you love evokes so many memories, and is a wonderful way to keep their spirit or message alive. It can also be s significant remember of love or affirmation that we all can use in our daily lives. Whether you frame a favorite handwritten family recipe and hang in your kitchen or lovingly display your wedding vows in your bedroom, there are so many opportunities for your home to tell your story.
